Fair Royalty Process Revamped

In an effort to be more inclusive and to drive engagement in the junior fair royalty contest, the Hardin County Fair has revamped the way it selects its top youth representatives. Any high school senior involved in a junior fair organization (4-H, FFA, FCCLA, Scouts, High School Art, Grange Youth or Ohio Farm Bureau Youth) may compete for the title of Hardin County Fair King or Queen. Schools will no longer be responsible for determining finalists.

“We wanted to get away from school-district segregation,” said co-chairs Jolene Buchenroth and Kelly Little. “We’re a county that prides itself on coming together to support each other. The same should be true for our fair royalty. We want to create a culture of support and friendly competition among contestants and organizations.”

Online applications will open March 1st and will be accepted until May 31st, 2022. Applications will be judged, and the top contestants will interview at a time and date that will be determined in the future. Finalists will be recognized at the Hardin County Fair King and Queen Crowning ceremony in front of the grandstands on Tuesday of the fair.

The royalty program is being sponsored by Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative. Potential contestants can read more and fill out an application at www.hardincountyfair.org/royalty.
